A “pop-up” car rally in Wildwood devolved into a chaotic scene on Saturday night

As at least one car struck a building, police responded to multiple accidents and helicopters airlifted the injured to hospitals.

Police have yet to confirm the number of people injured during the event, known as H2oi or H2022.

Reached by phone late Saturday, Wildwood Mayor Pete Byron said he couldn’t yet provide a statement with details.

The gathering was previously held in Ocean City, Maryland, where authorities faced speeding cars, crashes, and large crowds.

Late Saturday night NJ Advance Media saw three damaged vehicles at the scene of one accident near Bagel Time Cafe on Atlantic Avenue near Burke Avenue

where one of the cars had struck the building. A SUV from the state medical examiner’s office was also on site.

In one video, the car takes off at a high speed, followed by a collision in the distance.

The event was promoted in advance on a public Facebook page that was no longer available after the accidents on Saturday night.

Wildwood officials had warned that the event was unsanctioned and police would have “zero tolerance” policy for toward traffic violations.
